Morigaon (Assam)The rally, which was attended by vehicles carrying tourists from different countries, took place last Saturday near Pobitora area of Morigaon district in Assam district.
As many as 18 cars of various makes, from Mercedes to Jaguar to Volvo, and two BMW motorcycles drove through the sanctuary as part of the Himalayan Vintage Car Rally, organized by a group Belgium.
The procession started from Kolkata and passed through Sikkim, Darjeeling and Bhutan before entering Assam. The group had already passed through Kaziranga National Park before coming here.
It will proceed to Shillong and Bangladesh before coming back to Kolkata again.
A participant from Germany, who was talking to reporters here, said that the greenery of Assam and the friendliness of the people touched him.
“I started to love Assam because it is so green and has wonderful plants, and wonderful rivers,” he said, referring to the people and their enthusiasm.
He also expressed his happiness to visit this Northeast region as he started his day with Assam tea in his country.

“In my country, I usually drink Assam tea in the morning and now I know where it comes from,” the tourist added.
The tourists also went on an elephant safari inside the sanctuary, which is famous for its one-horned rhinoceros.
