Some say it couldn’t be done, a high refresh rate projector for your video gaming needs, that somehow includes a Variable Refresh Rate that even surpasses their current line of Monitors? Look no further than Acer’s newest Predator projector, the GD711.
A gaming projector that does a very good TV job, I might add.

Quality Construction
The project feels pretty light, considering it’s a 4K display cramped into a plastic box filled with mirror bits. There is a stand that you can angle to adapt the projector to the wall angle you want, granted with some angling of the lens via the viewfinder adjuster.
And it projects quite well on a normal wall and during my experiment, even on blinds (but it won’t be as clear as a long wall). The sound quality is also quite good, with the built-in speaker speaker doing well with clear sound during gameplay and multimedia playback.
One thing I don’t like is that the ports are no more than 2 HDMI and no VGA support, which is a modern design but I wish they would still support it for a while back from the old days of VGAs -use as a connector.
Display Quality
The GD711 Projector can output to 4K HDR, so it can handle current-gen consoles like Xbox Series Consoles and PS5s. It can also output to 260Hz (or for me in the S Series, only 144Hz) with a resolution I usually use at 1440p (or 1080p if you don’t mess with the setting like I usually do). It also includes the Variable Refresh Rate (or VRR) which this little guy can’t test.
They also have settings for Game Mode which fine-tunes the color contrast which can easily be done on colored walls (as you can see in my shots here). And it has Android OS built in (with Aptoide), so you can watch Netflix, YouTube, and more on the projector without anything plugged in.
Verdict
The Acer Predator GD711 is a unique piece of technology that can double as a monitor or TV this year. Although its price range of 5,999 SRP Malaysian Ringgit may be a little complicated, BUT, its 260Hz refresh rate, VRR itself could be a pretty good alternative to more traditional tools for watching games.
All in all, the Acer Predator creates another very beautiful piece of technology that those curious enough to use could benefit from it.
