ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB) – Update: Jeff Hall’s administration submitted a report to the Alexandria City Council as of January 2021 of $48,884.73 in legal fees spent on the ongoing legal battle for the reinstatement of APD Lieutenant Kenny. Rachal after his dismissal in 2020.
The Alexandria City Council will ask Mayor Jeff Hall tonight how much money has been spent on a legal battle to reinstate an Alexandria Police Department lieutenant after he was fired in 2020.
Lt. was fired. Kenny Rachal at the office in 2020 for an oral argument with one of the officials. After multiple termination hearings against Rachal, the Board of Fire and Police Commissioners reinstated Rachal, more than two years after he was fired. The board agreed that while the punishment was appropriate, it was excessive.
However, just a month after the board’s decision, the City of Alexandria filed an appeal asking a judge to reverse it.
While a hearing date has not yet been set, the council is asking to see the total cost of legal fees so far, as well as the costs expected of the city’s appeal.
