Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma held a meeting with an elderly woman who has a land dispute between them. A video shared by Sarma on his Twitter handle shows him interacting with the woman, who hails from Kokrajhar.
“God’s grace to be able to serve! Advised DC and SP of Kokrajhar to deal with the issues facing the respected lady,” Sarma tweeted.
The minister ordered the officials to ensure that the land dispute is resolved and the woman can get a house of her own.
The woman also said she was getting it ₹250 per month as pension. To do this, Himanta Biswa Sarma asked the officials to cover the Assam government’s Orunodoi flag system and ensure that she gets a monthly pension. ₹1,250 from February next year.
The video earned several reactions from Twitteratis praising Chief Minister Sarma for his gesture.
According to the website of the state finance department, the Orunodoi scheme was launched by the government in 2020.
The two objectives of the plan are women’s economic empowerment and the lifting of the poor from the below poverty line (BPL) in line with the government’s commitment to sustainable development goals.
The website also reveals that the scheme has had more than 19.32 lakh beneficiaries so far.
