Albuquerque police are looking for a teenager who bragged on Instagram about shooting a woman in downtown Albuquerque on Aug. 13.
The man they are looking for is 18-year-old Damion P. Gallegos, who has been charged with two counts of battery, assault and battery with a firearm.
According to a criminal complaint filed in Metropolitan Court, Gallegos is accused of shooting the woman around 2 a.m. in a parking lot near Seventh and Central SW.
The woman, who was shot in the arm and leg, later told police she was with a group of friends when Gallegos became agitated after he pointed a black and red gun at her friend, the complaint states. .
As the woman and her friend pulled out of the parking lot, Gallegos shot her three times, according to the complaint. Her friend was grazing her wrist.
According to the complaint, after firing the shots, the friend made the woman sit in the back seat of the vehicle of two people who were seen in the area. He asked them to drop her off at a local hospital, but they had an accident on the way.
While responding to the shooting, officers arrived at a car accident at Second and Lomas NW.
A police investigation found Gallegos had been texting several Instagram accounts on the day of the shooting, saying, “Did you see me shoot that guy” and “I shot (expletive),” according to the complaint. When another Instagram user asked what happened, Gallegos responded, “shot somebody,” and then “down town,” according to the complaint.
The next day, Gallegos messaged another user, “Shooted Sum 1 the other day there.” He then sent several messages on Aug. 17 in which he wrote, “She was shot in the leg and arm,” according to the victim’s report to police, according to the complaint.
Gallegos mentioned the woman by name in a message asking another user about her, then wrote to the same user and said, “That’s who I shot,” the complaint said.
Police also found several posts on Gallegos’ Instagram profile in which he posed with a red and black gun that matched what both victims described to police after the shooting, according to the complaint.
