Dramatic surveillance videos of Thursday’s fatal officer-involved shooting in The Bronx show plainclothes NYPD cops opening fire on a fleeing armed suspect in a bodega.
The incident unfolded around 11:30 a.m. inside a convenience store at Hull Avenue and East Gun Hill Road when a 29-year-old man entered the business and immediately assaulted the 21-year-old, police said.
Videos from inside the bodega obtained by The Post show the assailant choking and brutally beating the youth.
As the brawl moves to the back of the store, the dark blue-shirted assailant rear-ends the victim, who, struggling, kicks a display case of snacks and kicks wildly at the items lined up on the shelves.
The fight ends with the victim being stabbed multiple times before the attacker escapes.
The wounded 21-year-old then runs after his attacker, straddling his leg.
Video recorded by a camera overlooking the entrance to the bodega on the street corner shows the 29-year-old suspect getting into a white Lexus parked outside.
The stabbing suspect runs up to the car with a gun and fires “at point-blank range,” NYPD Chief of Detectives James Essig said.
At that moment, video captures three plainclothes police officers crossing the street with guns drawn, and more than a dozen shots ring out.
The 21-year-old gunman was shot and fell to the ground.
As the blue-shirted stabbing suspect jumps out of the Lexus and flees, the responding police cease fire and repeatedly order the wounded gunman: “Don’t move!”
Meanwhile, the stabbed and shot man screams in agony, drawing a large crowd of onlookers. The officers approach him and toss a black handgun out of his reach, then turn him over and beg them not to.
Chaos breaks out on the side of the road, with witnesses screaming, furiously banging parked cars and trying to approach the captured gunman despite officers’ efforts to keep him away from the crime scene.
The 21-year-old man was taken to St. Barnabas Hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said.
A 29-year-old man who stabbed a 21-year-old man to death inside a bodega was later found at a nearby barber shop and taken into custody. He was being treated at the hospital for a head injury.
Essig said the plainclothes officers involved in the shooting — two detectives and a sergeant — were members of the Queens Violent Felony Squad who were in the area to investigate an unrelated case.
It is unclear from the videos whether all the officers used their service weapons or how many rounds were fired.
As of Friday morning, police had not released the name of the shooting victim, and no charges had been announced against the 29-year-old stabbing suspect.
