A 13-year-old girl, missing since Saturday, was found dead in a forest in Assam’s Cachar district, police said on Wednesday, and a 43-year-old neighbor of the victim has been arrested for allegedly abducting her. killed. According to the police, the victim went to a wedding with her family on November 6 and went missing late in the evening. An officer of the Joypur police station said that the victim’s younger brother, who is about 11 years old, told the family members that a man had given them both chocolates but they refused to take them. “According to the boy, his sister accepted and agreed to accompany the man. He wanted to follow him but the man threatened him and he turned back. He later identified the man when the girl disappeared,” said the officer.
Lakhipur sub-division police officer Dinesh Kumar told HT that the accused confessed to abducting the child. He directed the police to the forest where the body was dumped. But he still has to confess to the alleged rape. “Shortly after his arrest, he confessed to the crime and we found the body as well. It is suspected that he raped the victim and the truth will come out when we get the investigation reports. We are still asking questions,” he said.
Certainly, any confession or disclosure statement made to a police officer is not admissible as evidence in a court of law unless corroborated by other evidence. Only a confession before a judge is admissible as evidence against the accused.

According to the girl’s family members, they searched for their daughter on Saturday night. The next morning, their son told them how his sister had followed an old man. “We know the accused, and our son said he was accompanied by many men. We suspect that they were pirates before they killed him,” family members said.
According to the police, no major external injuries were seen on the body. “There are marks near the throat, and it is suspected that she was strangled,” said an officer.
In another incident, six minor boys were arrested on Monday in Karimganj district, accused of raping a 13-year-old girl and recording the crime.
Karimganj Additional Superintendent of Police (SP), Partha Protim Das said that the six children in conflict with the law have been arrested along with evidence that they were involved in the alleged crime.
“They are undergoing questioning under the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act and we are doing sample tests etc. This matter is very sensitive and we cannot disclose everything,” he said.
