Guwahati: Chief Minister of Assam Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma attended the Platinum Jubilee celebrations of Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH) in Dibrugarh.
Speaking on the occasion, CM Sarma made an important announcement. He announced that the state government will provide an amount of Rs 300 crores for the medical college and student housing.
Taking to Twitter, CM Sarma wrote, “Extremely happy to attend the platinum jubilee celebrations of AMCH, Dibrugarh. I pay tribute to Sir John Berry White whose efforts led to the birth of this NE’s first institute of medical education in 1900 and to Gopinath Bordoloi who played an important role in establishing the present AMCH.”

CM Sarma also added, “I have also released a commemorative postage stamp, announcing ₹ 300 cr to build doctor’s quarters & student accommodation. The VC of Srimanta Sankaradeva University of Medical Sciences has been asked to give an award. An annual pass after Sir John Berry White awarded to the holder of the 1st position in MBBS.”
