New Delhi, Nov 12 (UNI) Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday spent preparations for the celebrations scheduled on November 23 and November 24 at Vigyan Bhawan here to commemorate the 400th birth anniversary of Lachit Barphukan.
While chairing a meeting with his cabinet colleagues Pijush Hazarika and Jayanta Malla Baruah here, Sarma said, “Lachit Barphukan never got the right place in the annals of history like other brave warriors like Chatrapati Shivaji got, though later, the process has just started following the organization of this event.”
Former President Ram Nath Kovind inaugurated the 400th birth anniversary celebrations of Barphukan in Guwahati and inaugurated the annual celebrations which will continue in February this year.
The CM also said that since most of the ministers of the Assam government will be camped here to supervise the preparations, therefore, if necessary, the cabinet will sit here to take decisions on important issues.
Yesterday, Hazarika, Baruah and Ashok Singhal, who is also a minister in the Sarma-hoggaa government, visited the sites and inspected the preparations for the upcoming event.
He was accompanied by MPs – Sushanta Borgohain, Diganta Kalita, Manab Deka, Rekibuddin Ahmed and a few senior government officials.
