Shillon: Assam continued to retain the overall medal lead in the 2nd North East Games of the 2022 Olympics at the end of the third day’s action.
Assam has so far amassed 17 gold, 11 silver, and 9 bronze medals, which puts it ahead of 2018 champion Manipur, who currently has 11 gold, 12 silver, and 13 bronze.
Third place went to Arunachal Pradesh, with 7 gold, 6 silver, and 4 bronze, while Mizoram bagged 4 gold, 4 silver, and 8 bronze.
Next is hosts Meghalaya, who have 1 gold, 5 silver, and 9 bronze medals. Nagaland also has 1 gold but is behind Meghalaya as it has 0 silver and 4 bronze.
Sikkim is ranked seventh with 3 silver and 8 bronze medals, followed by Tripura, which has 8 bronze medals.
Assam’s rich gold medalist goes down in a Crinoline swimming pool show. Adding six golds on Friday, yesterday’s swimming champions from Assam were Angshuman Kashyap (100m men’s breaststroke), Disha Gogoi (100m breaststroke), Darshita Baruah (50m women’s backstroke), Jananjoy Jyoti Hazarika (men’s 100m butterfly), men’s 4x50m and women’s 4x50m.
The only swimming gold she did not win was won by Sarungbam Athouba Meitei from Manipur in the men’s 50m.
