Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Saturday that Assam and Meghalaya will work with the Indian Army to turn Umiam Lake into a world-class venue for water sports.
He said that the first ever 3 days of Rising Sun Water Fest 2022 held at Umiam Sports Center in Meghalaya was completely dominated by water and exciting sports. Speaking at the closing ceremony of the festival in Umiam, Meghalaya, Sarma said, “These singers have provided a platform for the clubs and the sports community to showcase their skills.”
Thanking the organizers of the Indian Army’s Eastern Command, Gajraj Corps and Red Horns Division for organizing the event, Sarma said that the Umiam Lake where the event will be held will be transformed into an attractive tourist destination. “In the future also to promote and protect boating and other water sports, Assam and Meghalaya should take important steps. Both the states should make joint efforts to promote water sports in the state,” Sarma said.
Seeking the support of the Meghalaya Government, Sarma said, “The two state governments will work together with the help of the Indian Army to transform Umiam into a world-class venue for water sports.”
He also hoped that when this event is extended, the socio-economic development and local infrastructure will reach a different level than before.
He also praised the role of the Indian army in this event.
