Assam Police nabs CFI member ‘hiding’ in Bengaluru
Hamja, 27, has been on the run since the Center banned both PFI and CFI in September.
The Assam Police on Saturday said they have arrested Amir Hamja, a member of the Campus Front of India (CFI), the student wing of the Popular Front of India (PFI), from Bengaluru.
Hamja, 27, a resident of Ananda Nagar in western Assam’s Baksa district, has been on the run since the Center banned both PFI and CFI in September, police said, and is hiding in Bengaluru along with some Tripura families. .
Assam Police traced and arrested him with the help of Bengaluru Police. He was released on three days’ remand by the Bengaluru Chief Magistrate.
He will be produced before the Guwahati High Court on Monday.
Hamja has been booked in a case registered by the Special Operations Wing of the Assam Police. It has been booked under Section IPC and Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967.
The police launched a campaign against members of the PFI, CFI and other organizations, which in September were declared illegal by the Ministry of Interior.
