The Serchhip Battalion of 23 Sector Assam Rifles under Inspector General Assam Rifles (East), on Wednesday, recovered 190 cases of foreign origin cigarettes worth Rs 2.47 crore from Zotlang new area of ​​Champhai district.
The operation was carried out by a joint team of Assam Rifles and Custom Preventive Force, Champhai based on specific information.

A senior officer of Assam Rifles said that the Assam Rifles team found the material dumped near New Zotlang.
The estimated value of the recovered foreign cigarettes is Rs 2.47 crore.
“A team of Assam Rifles has recovered the goods dumped in Zotlang area, the amount of cigarettes recovered is Rs 2,47,00,000. The seized goods have been handed over to the excise department, Champhai for further legal action,” said the officer. .
The constant smuggling of cigarettes of foreign origin is a major concern in the Mizoram region, especially on the border between India and Myanmar.
