Guwahati, Nov 9 (IANS): Assam will have smart electricity meters installed in almost every house across the state to reduce energy wastage, officials said on Wednesday.
The cabinet of the state government has taken a decision on this matter.
The deadline for completion of the project has been fixed on March 31, 2025. The state government will spend around Rs 4,500 crore on this project.
According to the department’s claim, this step will reduce energy wastage and also create job opportunities.
Moreover, to improve the power situation in three districts – South Salmara, Barpeta, and Bongaigaon in Assam, the government has decided to give revised administrative permission to seven projects and utilizing the saved funds of Rs 56.76 crore. crore for three ongoing projects, an official said. he said.
According to a senior official, this move will benefit at least 30 lakh customers.
Apart from that, the Assam cabinet took few other decisions.
With an aim to strengthen the training programs in the police brigades, 34 retired policemen will be appointed as Additional Inspectors of Police (Training) in all the brigades of Assam.
The cabinet meeting was chaired by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. Other senior ministers from various departments were also present.
