BJP committed to implement caste law: Assam Chief Minister

New Delhi:

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday said that the BJP is committed to implementing the Citizenship Amendment Act and it is a matter of time to frame its rules. It is the legal right of a Hindu to become a citizen of his motherland and the BJP is fully behind the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA), he said at a Hindustan Times leadership conference here.

When asked why the laws have not been enacted yet, Sarma pointed out that there were people protesting against the CAA and then, the coronavirus epidemic came. “It is in the process, but the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is still determined. Parliament has passed the law, it is a matter of time when you see the CAA laws,” he said.

The minister also rejected the argument that the saffron party is using it as a voting board, saying that people who will vote for CAA will not even count for two to three parliamentary seats in the country.

“CAA is part of our promise, it is part of our ideology, we will implement it. Someone asked ‘Where is Ram Mandir, when will it come’, you have seen Ram Mandir now, someone asked brought” when the article 370 will go. “, it is gone, the same way you will see the UCC (Uniform Civil Code) coming, the same way you will see the CAA coming, “he said.

The Citizenship (Amendment) Act provides for the granting of Indian citizenship to non-Muslims — Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains, Parsis and Christians — from Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Pakistan. The CAA was approved by parliament on December 11, 2019, and the presidency received the following day. Later, he was notified by the Ministry of Interior.

However, the law is yet to be enforced as the regulations under the CAA are yet to be enacted. Rules under the law must be formulated to implement them.

Sarma also criticized his former party Congress for electing Mallikarjun Kharge as its president and said that if Shashi Tharoor had won the election for the post, he said that democracy would have reached the Congress. .

Talking about those who voted for Tharoor in the polls, Sarma said that many good thinkers are in the Congress and will soon come to the BJP.

“These 1,000 people who voted for Shashi Tharoor, I think they will be the ones who join the BJP in six months or one year,” he said.

Rejecting the argument that the BJP did not conduct internal democratic elections, Sarma said any BJP president should go through a democratic process where that person cannot be controlled.

Sarma also said that by 2024, BJP will expand to two-three states and this expansion will continue for two more elections.

“By 2029, you will see BJP everywhere in the country,” he added.
