Britney Spears’ legal team has urged her father to be held in contempt of court over an issue involving medical records.
The pop sensation’s lawyer, Mathew Rosengart, filed a motion for sanctions against Jamie Spears and her lawyers after accusing them of conspiring to reveal Britney’s medical records, to embarrass and threaten him.
In the motion, the legal expert accused Britney’s father and his team of ‘disrupting’ the discovery process and using ‘unfair legal methods’.
The allegations came after Magistrate Judge Brenda Penny gave them a warning at a hearing last month for releasing the records.
He said: ‘Since these documents have been sealed by previous court orders, it is unfair and contrary to court orders that Mr. Spears these articles in support. [of his motion].
‘Mr. Spears and her counsel have not provided an explanation for their decision to release the previously sealed documents or oppose the current motion based on the party’s protective order.’
Britney’s lawyer argues that revealing her private medical records means Jamie and his team are violating the Toxic singer’s constitutional rights to privacy.
The move followed a failed court bid to have the 40-year-old pop star fired.
Mathew said Jamie had been involved in a ‘national lawsuit against Britney Spears’ since he was suspended as a guardian over her affairs in September 2021.
The lawsuit also said that Britney’s father went out of his way to embarrass and threaten his daughter, and incur unnecessary legal expenses to get compensation from his estate.
In his unsuccessful motion to excommunicate the singer, the patriarch made several additions, despite the speaker’s request to remain closed.
He wrote: ‘The impetus for Mr. Spears to “take” her daughter’s sensitive, confidential information, including medical information, embarrass and intimidate her, and generate unreasonable amounts of money, while trying to “fix” her again. “
The attorney believes Jamie and his team should be fined $20,000 and found in contempt of court.
