According to Dutch outlet de Volksrant, the five-star Conservatorium Hotel will appear under the name Breenbergh in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, and the hotel’s manager is not happy about his description as war zone. In real life, the Conservatorium itself is a former bank building designed by the famous Dutch architect Daniel Knuttel, which was converted into a luxury hotel in the 1980s.
“We’ve always felt that the Conservatorium Hotel would be the perfect location for the new Call of Duty,” said hotel manager Roy Tomassen. “In general, we do not support games that appear to encourage violence. The game does not reflect our core values, and we regret our unnecessary involvement. “
Although this discussion ends with legal action, the meaning is still there. It is unclear how such a lawsuit would shake out in American or European courts, and what this legal action will look like. Similar controversy arose in 2006, when Insomniac’s Resistance: Fall of Man used Manchester Cathedral as inspiration for a level, sparking legal action.
