NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – An East Nashville shooting sent a woman to the hospital Thursday night, and residents in the area said incidents like that didn’t happen often, but that all changed three or four months ago.

Metro Nashville police are searching for the shooter as neighbors worry about the frequency of violent crime in the area.

“A lot of stupid things have been happening in the last three months. We don’t know what’s going to happen,” said a neighbor who overheard Thursday night’s shooting, spoke to WSMV 4’s Tosin Fakiel anonymously for security reasons. “At exactly 11:40, I was sitting on my couch watching a movie when I heard three voices. So, I paused the movie and I heard four more gunshots. So I was shocked.

The MNPD said about a dozen shots were fired near condos on North Seventh Street near Main Street in East Nashville. Metro police believe it was a drive-by shooting.

“It’s very scary and upsetting, especially because I have young children. Therefore, they are not comfortable; I’m not comfortable with them being children,” the unidentified woman said. She believes neighborhood violence comes from elsewhere.

“When we say community here, we mean a community here. We all take care of each other’s children. We get along with each other,” the woman said. “That’s the kind of people we are. So, we know that outsiders are coming to do this. There is no one here. Outsiders come in.

A woman who was outside at the time of the shooting Thursday night was injured in the leg but was unharmed, police said.

An unidentified neighbor who spoke to WSMV 4 said the MDHA home down the street is not secure and they don’t know if the cameras are working.
