On Thursday, an audience of Supreme Court justices Samuel Alito, the author of the decision that overturned Roe v. Wade, gave a speech after giving a speech to lawyers and legal scholars.
“Guys, your work is needed today,” Alito told the audience, according to NBC News.
The author of Dobbs v. Jackson was joined by fellow justices Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh and Amy Coney Barrett, all of whom agreed with his decision to overturn Roe vs. Wade.
Alito received a second mention when his ruling on Dobbs was mentioned by a different speaker at a conference hosted by the Federalist Society, a liberal legal group.
“The Dobbs decision will forever be part of Justice Alito’s legacy,” said Steven Markham, founder of the society’s DC chapter.
“I don’t know of any decision, on any court, by any judge, that judge would be more proud of that legacy.”
In his speech, Barrett told the audience that it was nice to hear “noise that wasn’t coming from the protesters outside my house,” and said he was “really benefiting” from the action. of the Federalist Society.
Also in attendance were Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) to the conference, which celebrated the 40th anniversary of the conservative legal community.
