The Trump Organization’s experiment

The Trump Organization was sued two weeks ago in Manhattan Supreme Court, and the District Attorney’s Office said the real estate company cheated on its taxes from 2005 to 2021 by not to mention the great benefits that the elites received – such as luxury apartments and cars.

The prosecution’s star witness, former Trump Org chief financial officer Allen Weisselberg, began his testimony in the case Tuesday. Weisselberg, 75, pleaded guilty in August to tax charges, agreeing to accept more than $1.7 million in “off the books” benefits to avoid taxes.

The company faces up to $1.6 million in fines. Trump has not been charged in the case and is not accused of any wrongdoing.

New York Attorney General Letitia James ruled

Although Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg has yet to bring criminal charges against Trump after a three-year investigation, New York Attorney General Letitia James in September filed a case civil $250 million for Trump, his company, his children Donald Jr. Ivanka and Eric, Weisselberg.

James accused Trump’s camp of a “discount” fraud that they accused of defrauding the company’s assets in an attempt to improve credit and insurance policies and obtain tax benefits.

Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Arthur Engoron on Monday appointed retired Judge Barbara Jones as a special investigator to investigate the Trump Org as it diverts funds in the case. Engoron said earlier this month that there was a need to ensure “there is no fraud” while the case plays out in court.

Trump has called the James trial a “witch hunt.”

It’s not all bad news for Trump, who won two victories this week in civil lawsuits brought by Michael Cohen and his niece Mary Trump.

On Monday, a Manhattan Supreme Court judge tossed out Mary Trump’s 2020 lawsuit against Trump and her siblings who allegedly defrauded her of all her wealth up to tens of millions of dollars.

But Manhattan Judge Robert Reed found that Mary Trump waived claims against family members when she signed a 2001 settlement agreement for her grandfather Fred Trump Sr.’s estate. Mary Trump is appealing the decision.

In a separate federal ruling on Monday, Trump and former Attorney General William Barr won their bid to throw out Cohen’s suit. The lawyer said he was sent to prison in exchange for writing his tell-all “Disloyal: A Memoir.”

However, Cohen scored his own legal victory when an appeals court on Tuesday reinstated his lawsuit alleging that the Trump Org owes him $1.9 million in legal bills in he picked up in testimony during the investigation by special counsel Robert Mueller and several congressional committees against Trump.
