MURRAY, Utah (KSL.com) – Troopers say a driver has been found dead from a gunshot wound after his car collided with a semitruck on I-15.

Around 9:45 p.m., a semitruck and a car collided in a “sideswipe-type” collision in the area of 5300 South. The car was hit on its passenger side, and the semitruck sustained damage from the crash on its driver’s side. Cameron Rhoden said.

The driver of the semitruck lost control and veered onto the wet road, blocking the right three lanes of traffic while the car came to rest on the freeway shoulder.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found the driver of the car with a gunshot wound to the head, Rhoden said.

Investigators found “no immediate signs of foul play,” according to Sgt. The semitruck driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation.

Roden said investigators found no signs of road rage leading up to the crash.

When asked if a gun was found in the car, Rhoden said later Wednesday, “The weapon was found and the initial indications seem to lean toward suicide.”

He emphasized that the police will investigate all angles.

Troopers do not believe either driver was injured in the crash.

Other than the semitruck driver, no witnesses to the crash have yet been located, said Sgt. Anyone who may have witnessed the crash is asked to call emergency dispatch at 801-887-3800.
