Florida police have arrested a man for allegedly shooting and killing another man’s dog during an attempted robbery last week.
Tampa Police Chief Mary O’Connor said at a press conference Thursday that 17-year-old Jayden Harris was arrested in connection with last Friday’s shooting during a robbery. WTVT-TV reported.
The outlet reported that Giovanni Ruiz was walking his two 7-year-old dachshunds when one approached him with a gun, demanding money.
The man fired his weapon five times into the ground and shot both dogs.

Ruiz says he took both of his dogs and ran away while the man fired several shots in his direction.
Ruiz then went to an emergency vet, where his dog, Bambi, survived, but his other dog, Jacob, was shot and killed.

Police said they reviewed surveillance footage and identified him as a passenger in an SUV circling the block.
Harris was arrested hours after the shooting for an unrelated robbery warrant, but was released on bond two days later because police did not know at the time that he was a possible accomplice in Ruiz’s attempted robbery.

Ruiz recognized Harris as the culprit when shown a photo, at which time authorities arrested Harris and charged him with aggravated assault, robbery with a firearm, robbery with a firearm, aggravated assault with a firearm, two counts of animal cruelty and minor in possession of a firearm. .
