Guwahati: Union Minister of Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari On Thursday, he met the Governor of Assam Jagdish Mukhi and discussed the ongoing infrastructure projects across the state.
According to a Raj Bhavan release, Gadkari briefed Muhki on his ministry’s plan to utilize the Brahmaputra for transport and trade development.
He also talked about the opportunities of the river for commercial activities and the utilization of its huge power potential.
The minister also briefed the governor on the production of ethanol and methanol from bamboo and other biomass.
“There is a need to establish an International Bamboo Design and Manufacturing Center. Therefore, the plan is to push the bamboo and cane industry to utilize the abundant resources of bamboo and cane in the North East, especially in Assam,” he added.
Gadkari also emphasized the need for agro-processing, especially pineapple, which has huge export potential.
The chairman briefed the minister on his visit to the border areas and the need to improve border infrastructure.
