NORTH LAKHIMPUR: Police in North Lakhimpur district of Assam opened fire to control angry mobs who tried to kill a driver after he met with an accident on Wednesday.

The hit and run incident took place on the national highway-15 crossing Chaboti in North Lakhimpur district of Assam.

The Datsun Go car bearing registration number AR 01 H 0485 hit the motorcyclist at high speed around 9:30 am on Wednesday.

The deceased, whose name was Noor Islam, was dragged by the two-legged car he was driving, and was walking a few yards along the road, where he was killed immediately.

After the accident, a large crowd gathered at the scene of the accident and started beating the driver of the car.

The police arrived at the scene of the accident and tried to control the angry people.

However, when the crowd gathered, the police fired shots into the air, succeeding in dispersing the crowd.

The driver was arrested by the police and the victim’s body was sent for an autopsy.
