Update — October 18, 2022: Police have identified the man who was shot dead on Monday as Vishal Walia (38). Investigators believe the cause of his death was an attack related to a Lower Mainland gang conflict.

Homicide investigators responded to a fatal shooting Monday at the University Golf Club near UBC’s Vancouver campus.
At least six RCMP cruisers responded to the parking lot of the public golf course adjacent to Pacific Spirit Regional Park by mid-morning.
A body in the parking lot was covered with a white blanket.
Sergeant Timothy Pierotti with the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) said the team responded to a shooting Monday and found a man suffering from gunshot wounds, who later died.
Monday, emergency crews responded to a burning vehicle in the nearby Dunbar neighborhood. The vehicle was found on fire in an alley near Crown Street and 22nd Avenue, less than five kilometers from the golf course.

Pierotti said if the vehicle caught fire near the recent shooting, a possible link would be investigated, but he said no connection had been established yet.
Richmond RCMP released a statement Monday that they are investigating a three-vehicle crash on Highway 91 related to a suspicious fire in Vancouver, but they are not saying if it is the same fire.
The collision involved a police cruiser, a commercial vehicle and a vehicle containing three suspects, who are now in custody pending investigation.
The golf course was closed while police investigated.
