Surrey, BC – BC’s Independent Investigations Office (IIO) is investigating the death of a man following a police-involved shooting north of Walhatch near Kamloops.
On August 14, 2022 at 5:20 p.m., police responded to a report of a man allegedly strangling a woman and a child, according to information provided by the RCMP.
Emergency Response Team members were deployed and the man’s vehicle was located on Deadman Vidette Road about 14 kilometers off the Trans Canada Highway.
At approximately 3:00 a.m. on August 15, 2022, at least one officer discharged their firearm. It is reported that he had a weapon in his possession. The man was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.
The woman was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries before police intervention and the child was not injured.
The IIO was informed soon after the incident took place and investigators were deployed to the spot to begin investigation.
