Jacksonville, Fla. – A man found guilty of fatally shooting his ex-girlfriend and seriously injuring her sister in 2017 may return to court for a plea deal.
Chad Absher, 37, was on trial for murder in the death of Christina “Ashley” Rucker, 30. He was also charged with attempted first-degree murder in the shooting death of her sister, Lisa Rucker, 28, at a condo on San Juan Avenue. .
Absher insisted he didn’t try to kill his girlfriend Christina Ashley Rucker and her sister Lisa, but the jury thought otherwise — finding him guilty of first-degree murder and first-degree murder.
Now, the Rucker family is suing Absher for negligence.

The Rucker family is seeking more than $15,000 in damages.
The complaint alleges that on Oct. 31, 2017 — the time of the shooting — surveillance and access to the premises were inoperative, allowing Absher access to the property to kill his girlfriend.
The complaint alleges — among other things — one count of wrongful death against Absher for taking Christina Ashley’s life.
There are seven counts in total: two counts of negligence, three wrongful deaths, one infliction of emotional distress and one battery count.
According to court documents, the Rucker family agreed to a proposed settlement with the condo association and Vector Security in 2021.
A final summary judgment was filed in March 2022. The next hearing is scheduled for January 30, 2023.
