Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the governments of both Assam and Meghalaya will work together with the help of the Indian Army to turn Umiam into a world-class water sports venue.

Sarma today said that the first ever three-day Rising Sun Water Fest 2022 held at the Umiam Sports Center in Meghalaya has completely elevated water sports and fun.

Sarma, who made a speech today at the closing of the event which took place in Umiam in Meghalaya, said that the team has created a platform for them to unite and showcase their skills. Thanking the organizer namely Indian Army Eastern Command, Gajraj Corps and Red Horn Division for organizing the event, Sarma said that Umiam Lake where the event was held will be converted into an attractive tourist destination.

The minister also said that in the future also promoting and protecting boating and other water sports, Assam and Meghalaya will take important steps. He also said that the two regional governments will do their best to develop water sports in the region. Seeking the support of the Meghalaya Government, Sarma said the two state governments will work together to help the Indian Army to turn Umiam into a world-class venue for water sports. He also hoped that when this event is extended, the socio-economic development and local infrastructure will reach a different level than before. He also praised the role of the Indian Army on this occasion.

The Commander-in-Chief of the Eastern Command, Lieutenant General Rana Pratap Kalita, Air Chief of the Eastern Command Air Marshal Sujeet Pushpakar Dharkar, GOC 4 Corps Lieutenant General DS Rana, were present on the occasion.
