Yorktown Mall shooting suspect denied bond
A man accused of shooting at a shopping mall in west suburban Lombard last week has been denied bond.
Wheaton, Ill. – A man accused of shooting at a shopping mall in west suburban Lombard last week has been denied bond.
Ronald Grundy, 22, of Louisville, Kentucky, and his accomplice, Jacoby Kinsey, 24, of Chicago, appeared in bond court Monday for the shooting, the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office said.
The two men were charged with three counts of discharging a firearm at a person or vehicle and one count of aggravated battery with a firearm, prosecutors said.

Just after 3 p.m. Friday, Lombard police responded to a call of shots fired in the JCPenney parking lot at Yorktown Mall, prosecutors said.
‘No threat’ after shooting reported near Yorktown Center Mall
Lombard police determined there was no active threat to the community after investigating a report of shots fired near the Yorktown Center shopping mall on Friday.
The three victims, two men and one woman, told officers they were walking to their vehicle when Kinsey and Grundy, who were wearing ski masks, approached them. One of the men asked the victims, “Are you good,” prosecutors said.
As the group walked to their vehicle, Grundy and Kinsey got into their own car and drove toward the victims. Grundy then leaned out the passenger side window and fired multiple shots at the victims, striking the woman in the arm, prosecutors said.
She was taken to a local hospital where she underwent surgery to remove the bullet.

“Fortunately, the victim’s injuries do not appear to be life-threatening,” DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin said in a statement.
Officers processing the scene at Yorktown Mall found five spent 9mm shell casings, prosecutors said.
Authorities took Kinsey into custody Saturday in Chicago and arrested Grundy Monday at an address in Cook County, prosecutors said.

Lombard police are investigating after reports of shots fired near the Yorktown Center shopping mall.
“As the holiday shopping season begins, the fact that these two suspects opened fire in the middle of the afternoon in the parking lot of a popular mall shows a complete disregard for public safety and the rule of law,” Berlin said.
Grundy will appear in court on December 1.
Kinsey’s bond was set at $1 million Monday, and his trial is scheduled for Dec. 2.
