DA: Police need to talk to ‘several people on the street’ on Halloween night

MADRAS, Ore. (KTVEZ) – A 24-year-old man was shot multiple times Monday night in the Strawberry Heights neighborhood of southeast Madras and later died after being flown to St. Charles Bend, Jefferson County District Attorney Steve Lerich said Tuesday. His name and a photo of an SUV were later released.

According to Leriche and independent reports, around 7:45 p.m. Monday, law enforcement received several reports of shots fired in the area of the 900 block of Southeast Malia Avenue.

The 24-year-old man was “shot multiple times” and died after being flown by Life Flight to Bend Hospital, Lerich said. On Tuesday evening, he identified the shooting victim as Edgar Miguel Torres-Aguilera.

The DA also released a photo of the white SUV linked to the murder.

“At least one window is believed to have been shot during the incident,” he said.

The DA announced earlier that the Tri-County Major Incident Team has been activated to begin an investigation.

“There were a lot of people on the street at the time of the shooting,” which happened during trick-or-treating on Halloween night, Lerich noted. “Law enforcement needs to find these people and talk to them.”

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Oregon State Police Northern Command dispatch at *677. The corresponding OSP case number is SP22-293699.

A security video was shared by Newschannel 21 by a Madras resident who captured the sound of gunshots.

Another resident told KTVZ in a Facebook post, “Extremely thankful my kids’ buckets were full. We live two blocks away, almost across the street. Heard vehicles speeding and rushing through the neighborhood.”
