Guwahati: A team of the Guwahati East Police Department arrested two persons from Jorabat area on Wednesday for illegally transporting cattle.

Police tweeted that the EGPD Jorabat OP team at Basistha Police Station seized a Tata 407 car with registration AS01EC6384 at Jorabat.

The truck was seized while it was trying to transport 14 cows from Morigaon to Byrnihat.

During the operation, the forces arrested two people in the car.

Their names are Laden Ali and Mohidul Ali.

The two arrested are residents of Mikirbhata, Morigaon.

Police sources said that Assam cattle cannot be transported without permission and papers can be delivered anywhere.

Cattle transportation needs to be approved by the relevant officials if the transport is from district to district or even state.

The absence of documents indicates that the cattle are illegal and such cases where cattle are found without documents are seen as smuggling and strict action will be taken against the people found in this matter.
