Guwahati: The Assam government has asked all madrasas in the state to provide information about the teachers they have employed by December 1, an official said on Wednesday.

The madrasa came under the government’s watch after several teachers were arrested for alleged links to terrorism. The state government even destroyed three madrasas, while another such institution was razed to the ground.

While the move drew criticism, the state government defended its move.

The deadline was set during a meeting attended by Director General of Police (DGP), Bhaskarjyoti Mahanta, on Wednesday.

A senior government official said that madrasas have been ordered to provide details to the Directorate of Higher Education.

Notably, 47 people, including some madrassa teachers, have been arrested on suspicion of terrorist links with Al-Qaeda in India (AQIS) and Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT) units in the last six months. past.
