NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) — North Charleston Police say an 18-year-old man is in custody in connection with a fatal shooting on Oct. 15.
Hassan Omari Belin faces multiple charges including murder, armed robbery with a deadly weapon, possession of a weapon during a violent crime and four counts of kidnapping.
Police say on Oct. 15 at 4:22 p.m., a burglary in progress was reported at a home on Scarsdale Avenue.
Officials say several children waved them down and told them their father had been shot.
The victim, later identified as Anthony Hayward II, 35, of North Charleston, was found on a couch with gunshot wounds. He died on the spot.
North Charleston Recreation Department Assistant Athletic Director Mike Quick confirmed that Hayward was the department’s longtime football coach.
Belin was arrested Tuesday at a hotel on Rivers Avenue, police spokesman Harvey Jacobs said.
He is currently in custody at the Al Cannon Detention Center.
