A 40-year-old man who lives in Karimganj district of Assam is said to have raped a minor girl and attacked two policemen who went to arrest her.
He was later arrested on charges of rape and molesting government officials.
According to the police, the man allegedly raped a girl in Karimganj’s Nilambazar on Wednesday and the girl’s family lodged an FIR on the same day.
Based on the FIR, two policemen went to arrest the accused but were attacked instead.

The two police officers were later taken to hospital for treatment.
The accused resides in Nilambazar area of Karimganj.
“On Wednesday, the accused barged into the house and raped the girl. The girl’s mother later lodged a complaint with the police and they immediately took action,” said an officer.
Karimganj’s Additional SP Partha Protim Das said two policemen went to arrest the accused but attacked him.
“At around 7 in the evening, our officials went to search for him and managed to catch him, but he attacked him and both of them were injured. The accused was arrested later,” said the additional SP.
Two cases have been registered in Nilambazar police presence. Earlier it was under 448, 354A, 325 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and section 8 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act (POCSO).
The second case was registered under 332, 353 and 34 of the IPC after he assaulted the police officers.
He said, “We are investigating the matter and the victim is undergoing mandatory tests. Her statement will be recorded as part of the investigation.”
The accused was produced before the Karimganj district court on Thursday and sent to judicial custody, additional SP informed.
