A man is dead and a woman is injured after a domestic dispute began Sunday afternoon in Waterboro.

Elizabeth Rideout, who lives on Lakeview Drive in Waterboro, was shot in the shoulder during a domestic dispute at her home in the Lake Arrowhead community around 2 p.m., York County Sheriff William L. King Jr. said in a statement.

Rideout was taken to Maine Medical Center in Portland, where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries and released.

Deputies at the scene tried to contact her husband, Jeremy Rideout, but he was unresponsive, King said. Authorities later obtained a warrant to enter the home, King said.

When officers entered late Sunday night, they found Jeremy Rideout dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

King said the investigation into the circumstances leading up to the shooting will continue.

New Dam Road was closed to traffic from Victoria Lane to Imperial Road on Sunday and remained closed late Sunday night.

Deputies from York and Cumberland counties, Maine State Police troopers, the Southern Maine Special Response Team and emergency services units responded to the scene.
