Migos rapper Takeoff killed in Houston shooting | Media Pyro

Rapper Takeoff of the popular rap trio Migos was shot and killed after attending a party in Houston, Texas early Tuesday morning, his attorney and police confirmed. He was 28 years old.

“Along with my organization, I am devastated by the tragic death of Kirschnick Ball, known to his fans as Takeoff,” Drew Findling, an attorney, said in a statement. “Take Off was not only a brilliant musical artist of limitless talent, but also a uniquely kind and gentle soul. He will always be missed.”

Houston Police Chief Troy Finner confirmed the shooting death at a press conference Tuesday afternoon. He appealed for any witnesses to come forward with information about the incident.

“There were at least 40 people at this event. People were freaking out,” Finner said. “I’m asking you one thing … what if it was your brother? What if it was your son? You want somebody to step up. So please step up who’s hurting right now.”

The shooting happened around 2:30 a.m. local time at the end of a private party at 810 Billiards and Bowling, police said. An argument led to the shooting shortly after the party ended, police said.

When officers arrived, they found Takeoff dead outside the entrance to the bowling alley, located on the third floor of a large complex, police said.

Two others, a 23-year-old man and a 24-year-old woman, were injured and taken to hospital, police said. They were able to secure private transportation to the hospital, and both suffered injuries that were not considered life-threatening, police said. Police said they remained hospitalized as of Tuesday afternoon.

No suspects are in custody and police have not indicated that anyone has been identified. The investigation into the shooting is ongoing and still in its early stages, and police are asking the public to report relevant tips as detectives review surveillance footage from the Houston venue, along with videos and photos from social media and partygoers.

At least two guns were used in the shooting, according to Finner. About 40 or 50 guests attended the private party, which police say investigators believe was attended by the shooter or shooters.

While he didn’t want to speculate, Finner said there was no indication that Takeoff was involved in “any criminal activity” at the time of the shooting.

“Everybody said what a great young man he is, how cool he is, what a great artist,” Finner said.

Finner could not say whether takeoff was the intended purpose of the shooting or how many times he was hit.

Takeoff’s uncle and Migos member Quavo, 31, also appeared to be at the party, but police had not confirmed whether he was there Tuesday afternoon.

Before Tuesday afternoon’s press conference, Finner said he spoke with Takeoff’s mother, who flew in from out of town.
