The mother of a 15-year-old boy shot and killed near the Washington Convention Center on Friday says her family is “torn apart.”
Mackay Greene was shot multiple times in the 700 block of N Street NW just before 5 p.m., D.C. police said.
“They took my baby away from me. How do they expect me to go on without my son? I can’t do it,” Green’s mother told News 4. She asked not to be named.
The gunman got out of a dark-colored Mercedes sedan and opened fire on a group of teenagers hanging out in an alley near the convention center, police said.
Police released photos of a suspect Monday, along with photos of the suspect’s Mercedes.
“My family is broken. My heart is broken. That’s my firstborn, my only son,” Green’s mother said.
The boy’s killing comes amid a spate of shooting deaths involving teenagers in DC
So far this year, 14 minors have been shot and killed in DC, according to police figures. Six people were killed in 2021. Eight people died in shootings in 2020.
Four other teenagers were shot over the weekend in DC and are expected to survive.
News 4 has reported on 15 teenagers shot in the district in the past four weeks.
