Guwahati, November 6: The All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) on Saturday said that enough still needs to be done to respect, protect and publicize the valuable creations and contributions of Bharat Ratna Bhupen Hazarika.

On the occasion of the 11th death anniversary of the music maestro, AASU general counsel Samujjal Bhattacharjya said that they have been demanding to include the works of Bhupen Hazarika in the academic curriculum of the school up to the higher level of education but the state government has not yet taken any action. special action in this regard.

AASU was also demanding seats in the name of Bhupen Hazarika in important universities in Assam and India, Bhattacharjya told the media adding that they were demanding to change the name of Guwahati Railway Station to Bhupen Hazarika.

AASU organized the commemoration ceremony in front of Bhupen Hazarika statue in Guwahati.

In a tweet, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said: “The music of Sudhakonto Bhupen Hazarika will flow in our veins forever. Bhupen Hazarika is in the hearts of all Assamese.”

Several government and non-government organizations have organized many memorial functions across Assam to pay tribute to music.
