Police say one person is dead and a suspect has been arrested in connection with a shooting at Ingram High School in Seattle.

The police received information that shots were fired at the school around 10 am on Tuesday.

They arrived to find a victim with a gunshot wound. The man later died at Harborview Medical Center.

Seattle Police and the Washington State Patrol arrested a suspect. Police have not released details about the suspect.

“They’re not laughing at Ingram,” Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell said. “We need to keep our schools safe.

“There are too many guns on the street,” Harrell continued. “We will continue to do everything we can to keep our teachers and students safe.”

“When a student can pick up a gun and shoot another student, there’s a problem,” Seattle Police Chief Adrian Diaz said. “We arrived in four minutes. Four minutes! It’s a problem when people go to school expecting to learn, they’re not safe.

All school activities have been canceled, according to the school district. Classes for tomorrow have also been cancelled.

Police informed that security has been established in the campus.

“They texted us right away,” one parent told KIRO Newsradio’s Sam Campbell. They said it was not a drill and that someone had heard gunshots.

Parents met with the students in the afternoon.

A student of the school said, “We were sitting in the classroom for an hour and a half. Nothing was said to us. We were not allowed to leave the classroom,” he said. “Obviously, I was a little scared, but I didn’t hear anything.”

Ingram has about 1,500 students. Govt. Jay Inslee, a graduate of Ingram High School, responded on Twitter. “Thank you to the Seattle Police for being on the scene and helping to resolve this incident before the shooter hurt more people. Our children should never have to experience this. We can and must do better by them.
