PG&E takes legal action to renovate the Diablo Canyon Power Plant | Media Pyro

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif.– PG&E filed a motion with the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission to renew the Diablo Canyon Power Plant’s operating license beyond 2025 Monday to support a safe transition to clean energy.

PG&E is trying to reverse the trend of power plant shutdowns that highlight the need for its services between removing greenhouse gas emissions and bringing clean power online.

Vice President and Chief of the Nuclear Office Paula Gerfen described the change in PG&E attitudes as the change in California state law.

“We are proud of Diablo Canyon’s work to provide safe, reliable, affordable and carbon-free energy to our customers and the people of California. This request to renew our license is another step to help of California to truly achieve its energy efficiency goals.We help achieve those goals while continuing to operate one of the nation’s best plants.
