Police are investigating a shooting and car crash in Rutland Monday.

Rutland City Police were alerted to the crash at the intersection of State Street and Cleveland Avenue at 4:15 p.m., followed by a “second call (report) of shots fired in the area,” according to a press release from Vermont State Monday evening. Police.

Responding officers found a deceased person “with a vehicle involved in an accident.” Police have not identified the victim.

As of 9:00 p.m. Monday, police said no one had been taken into custody. State and city emergency personnel were on an “active scene” along State Street, which stretches from Emmet Street to Cleveland Avenue. Police encouraged the public to avoid the area.
