The Assam cabinet has approved the reform of Thana (police) level Nagrik Committees to provide a platform for communication between the police and the public.

In the cabinet meeting on Wednesday, it was said that the police station will be established under section 11 section 5 of the Assam Police Act, Nagrik or citizen’s committees to work as community liaison groups in the police stations.

The committee will include a Chairman, who will be appointed by the Government.

Members include the Chairman of the Corporation/Municipal Council (outside Guwahati) or Ward Commissioners (Guwahati), the highest public representative of the Development Authority, Nominated – Selection in consultation with the Minister of Defense.

The Cabinet also approved a review of the salary structure of the Judicial Officers of the Subordinate Judiciary in accordance with the recommendations of the Second Judicial Pay Commission (SNJPC).
