As we approach the holidays, police will be increasingly patrolling the streets and highways to try to crack down on speeding drivers. Officials say a New York state woman drove over the legal limit last week and is now facing a misdemeanor DWI charge.
According to the New York DMV website, the penalties for an Aggravated DWI are a fine of $1,000 to $2,500, and the revocation of your driver’s license for up to one year.
A New York state woman is considered 3X the legal limit
New York State Police said in a news release that they responded to reports of a vehicle driving erratically on Route 32 on the evening of Oct. 31. When authorities pulled over the the ferry, which is near the town of New Scotland. Police said they conducted a traffic stop and determined the 32-year-old driver had been speeding.
State Police said the woman from Westerlo was arrested and taken to a nearby facility for processing, where she recorded a 0.28% BAC, three and a half times over the legal limit of %0.08.
According to statistics from the Institute for Traffic Safety Management and Research, there were 27,268 impaired driving arrests in New York state in 2020, a 39.6% decrease from 2016.
Hudson Valley Man Turns Car But Keeps Going
It was a wild night in early April 2022, when police were called to a report of a motorcycle that had crashed and rolled, but landed upright on its wheel and continued driving.
Police say a 24-year-old suspect was arrested and charged with DWI after the incident.
The Suffern Police Department announced on its Facebook page that the incident occurred Friday morning on Route 202. Police were called after a vehicle hit an embankment in Haverstraw and overturned. Police say the suspect managed to continue driving the vehicle despite the damage during the crash. Officers say the vehicle was found rolling across the center line of Wayne Ave in the village of Suffern, with no side mirrors and broken windows.
The driver was soon pulled over after being spotted by an officer. Police did not say how much the man had been drinking.
