Police say the former police officer was chasing the Miami-Dade officer before he was shot | Media Pyro

Hialeah, Fla. – A relationship between two Miami-Dade County law enforcement officers with a history of domestic violence has ended after seven years, but not the violence, police said.

Yesenia Sanchez, a former Miami-Dade school police officer, used an electronic application to track her ex-boyfriend, according to an arrest form.

Sanchez, 32, entered the three-bedroom home at 1270 W 79 St Friday morning looking for her ex-boyfriend, Sgt. Jose Torres, spokesman for the Hialeah Police Department.

Sanchez got out of his car and confronted Officer Damian Colon, a 17-year veteran of the Miami-Dade Police Department, who was off-duty, police said.

Sanchez and Colon got into an argument, and she shot him once in the head, police said. She left in a red pickup truck. Police officers responded just before 6:40 a.m. and found the MDPD veteran injured, according to Torres.

Meanwhile, Sanchez hit several cars and abandoned the truck at Palm Avenue and 45th Street, Torres said. She took off running east on 45th Street and dropped her wallet, according to the arrest form.

Hialeah police officers later arrived at 630 E. 45 St. A neighbor described Sanchez as “super, super, super nice.” According to the arrest form, she confessed to the charges.

Fire rescue personnel took Colon to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Rider Trauma Center, where dozens of police officers waited for updates on his condition.

“He finished the surgery and he was moved to a room. His family is with him,” MDPD Director Alfredo “Freddy” Ramirez III said Friday afternoon.

He remained in critical condition Friday night, and Torres added that the investigation remains open and active.

Late last year, police officers arrested Sanchez while still a police officer. She armed herself with a gun and later a knife while threatening to harm herself.

Sanchez faces charges of attempted murder, stalking and leaving the scene of an accident.
