Guwahati: Assam police may lose their jobs if they are found in a tense situation during working hours, DGP Bhaskarjyoti Mahanta said on Friday.

The DGP said that new laws will be introduced to check police misconduct against those who do not work honestly.

Mahanta also said that the Assam government was working to quickly resolve the various problems faced by the police. These include lack of infrastructure, lack of housing, etc.

“The minister immediately prepared the financial allocation for the construction of 1,000 police houses when he was informed of the requirements,” he said.

“Besides, he was also discussed in detail about various issues like fighting cyber crime, working to provide benefits to people’s lives, etc.,” added the DGP.

The Assam police chief said that the police should be friends with the people.

“Even people should not be called to the police station for minor issues instead of police personnel visiting their homes to provide services,” he said.

“In Assam, we have decided to do away with minor cases to reduce the burden on the judiciary and the police should also work with this decision,” added the DGP.

Mahanta thanked the Chief Minister for looking into the problems faced by the Assam Police.

He said that the Police Force will work tirelessly for the development of the State.
