The people of Noapara hamlet on the Assam-Meghalaya border have expressed their displeasure over the construction of the MGNREGA (Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act) road project from Noapara village to Balwa Wari waterfalls, initiated by the Assam Government.

According to informed sources, the Assam Government has carried out the construction work with the help of the state police and supporters.

Angered by the development, the Meghalaya police from Langpih AD camp immediately rushed to the spot and found an earth mover, driven by Rahul Rabha, engaged in cutting work in Noapara village. It was suspended by the Circle Officer of Boko – Dibas Bordoloi after strong opposition from the locals.

The rebellion of the two regions decided to temporarily withdraw from the demonstration after the intervention of the higher authorities was confirmed.

The officials of the two governments who met decided that the people should hold an independent meeting regarding the continuation of this project, and they are submitting the matter to the deputies of the regional governments.

The matter was resolved ‘peacefully’, and a meeting will be convened by a Dorbar in Noapara village with supporters from Meghalaya and Assam, police, and civil officials from both states.
