Guwahati: At least seven people were killed and four others injured in road accidents in different parts of Assam on Thursday, police said.

According to the police, five people died in two accidents in Nalbari district and one each in separate incidents in Lakhimpur and Nagaon districts.

Four people died and four others were injured when a car they were traveling in crashed into a steel bridge in Banekuchi early this morning, according to a police official.

The vehicle was on its way to Guwahati from Howly area of ​​Barpeta district, the official said.

The passengers were employees of a Guwahati-based private hospital, he said.

“We suspect it was a high speed situation and there was low visibility due to fog. The driver and three other people died in the accident,” said a police official.

One of the injured, one of whom sustained serious injuries, was admitted to the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH).

A similar accident happened in Ghograpar area of ​​Nalabari district, early this morning a car carrying three people hit the railing of the bridge.

One passenger died on the spot, while the other two were injured, according to another police officer.

In a car accident in Naoboicha in Lakhimpur district, a young man was killed when his motorcycle collided with an unidentified vehicle.

In another similar accident, a woman died on the spot after being hit by a speeding car while she was out for a walk this morning in Raha area of ​​Nagaon district.
