At least seven people were killed and four injured in separate road accidents in different parts of Assam on Thursday, police said.
Five people died in two accidents in Nalbari district and one died in hit-and-run cases in Lakhimpur and Nagaon districts, they said.
In one of the accidents that took place in Nalbari area, four people were killed and four others were injured after the car they were traveling in crashed into the iron on the bridge in Banekuchi area early this morning.
The vehicle returned to Guwahati from Howly area of Barpeta district. The passenger was an employee of a private hospital in the city.
“We suspect it was a high speed situation and there was low visibility due to fog. The driver and three others died in the accident,” said a police official.
Among the four injured, one of them sustained serious injuries and was admitted to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital.
A similar accident happened in Ghograpar area, early this morning, a car carrying three people crashed into the railings of the bridge.
One person died on the spot, while the other two were injured, according to another police officer.
In a car accident in Naoboicha in Lakhimpur district, a young man was killed when his motorcycle collided with an unidentified vehicle.
In another similar accident, a woman who was one of the residents died on the spot after being hit by a speeding car while she was in Raha area of Nagaon district this morning.
