Police have arrested a 22-year-old man who shot another man in the chest in Yakima’s West Valley on Friday afternoon.

The victim, a 23-year-old man, underwent surgery and is recovering, according to a news release from the Yakima Police Department Saturday.

Police said the shooting happened around 3:15 pm Friday at the intersection of West Nob Hill Boulevard and 80th Avenue.

Based on witness statements, detectives said the victim was driving with a passenger the suspect had a previous relationship with. The suspect began following the victim in his vehicle to the area of ​​West Nob Hill and 80th, according to the statement.

Police said that after two vehicles collided, an altercation broke out between two people. The suspect then shot the victim, who was knocking on his window, police said in a news release.

The suspect was booked into the Yakima County Jail, where he faces a first-degree assault charge.

Nob Hill Boulevard was closed between South 76th and 80th during the investigation.
