Augusta, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – The suspect in a fatal shooting at a convenience store in August has been indicted.

Donald Gross, 62, was indicted Tuesday in the Aug. 21 shooting death of Samuel DeWayne Jackson, 48, of Augusta.

The The shooting happened Sunday at K Circle at 2574 Tobacco Road.

When deputies arrived, they found Jackson had been shot at least once. The victim was taken to Augusta University Medical Center, where he later died.

Gross is scheduled for a Nov. 18 hearing on charges of aggravated murder, murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, according to court records.

The fatal shooting comes amid a surge in fatal crimes that began in the spring and has continued across the CSRA. It affected small and large communities on both sides of the Savannah River, but Augusta, as the largest city, was particularly affected.
